Martha Lee has been a full time real estate professional since 1979, when
she moved to Keene Valley from the Soho neighborhood of New York City. She is
descended from early Adirondack settlers on both sides of her family,
and is the second generation of her family to operate Adirondack
Realty.
After graduating from Mount Holyoke College, she participated in and
worked for multi-cultural and international educational programs for
seventeen years. These included Crossroads Africa, American Field
Service, Head Start, Chinatown Planning Council (NYC), and California
public schools.
Martha Lee is past president of the Essex County Real Estate Board and past
member of the Board of Directors of the Northern Adirondack Board . She
holds the GRI and CBR designations in Real Estate. She likes the variety
and challenge of the real estate business and feels fortunate to be doing
work which takes her outdoors and allows her to explore the region's
communities and by-ways, working with many interesting people. She is
eager to do her best for the customers, clients and staff of Adirondack
Realty. Some of her outside interests include African Art, figure
skating, land use and social policy, genealogy and gardening.
She is married to Frank Owen, an artist and teacher. They have a
daughter, Kate,who is the original creator of the Adirondack Realty Web Site,
and a beautiful granddaughter, Alejandra Zoe.
Adrian Edmonds, Founder
Adrian Edmonds, founder of Adirondack Realty, passed away on August 23, 2005. He had lived most of his
96 years in the hamlet of Keene Valley. As a young man he assisted his father in construction before
attending Antioch College in Ohio. Upon his return home, he founded a
building business with his father and brother. Between 1932 and almost to the time of
his death he had been involved in the construction of over 100 homes,
participating in the design of many of these. He also did many
remodeling projects. Beginning in the 1950s, he purchased and developed
over 600 acres of land in Keene Valley, providing building sites for
many existing homes.
In 1936 Adrian became a licensed real estate broker and operated the
company until Martha Lee became Broker Owner.
Adrian served the community as volunteer fireman, Justice of the
Peace, town councilman, assessor, master of Adirondack Masonic Lodge 602
and as deacon and treasurer of the Congregational Church.
Adrian enjoyed developing and selling the lands he purchased and recording
colorful incidents of local oral history, excerpts of which can be found
in this website. His dream of writing a book of some of his memories was realized when his book,
"Recollections of an Adirondacker" was published and a book signing was held at the Keene Valley
Library in February 2005.
Chuck Gillman, Associate Broker and Senior Agent
LTC Charles "Chuck" Gillman passed away on November 9, 2008. He joined Adirondack Realty as a salesperson in 1992 and in 2005 became an Associate Broker.
Chuck was born in Jay, but moved to Keene Valley at an early age.
After High School he was drafted, attended and graduated from Officer Candidate School in 1954, U.S. Army Command and General Staff College in 1970 and Army
Aviation Training as a pilot for both the fixed wing and rotary wing planes. He was the deputy director of the
U.S. Army Department of Fixed Wing Training from 1970 to 1971 at Fort Stewart, GA. He served in aviation
in the Army during the Korean conflict and the Vietnam War. After 20 years of dedicated service to our country, Chuck retired from the Army, and later served as Supervisor for the Town of Keene for 10 years before
joining our Sales Team at Adirondack Realty.
Chuck was a member of the Keene Fire Department and the American Legion. In addition,
he was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and golf.
Chuck is survived by his wife, the former Joan Roy Gillman, two sons, David and Paul
and six grandchildren.
Wendy Sheasby, Licensed Salesperson
Wendy has lived
in Keene Valley her whole life and has been in real estate since 2001. She attended Woodbury College in Montpelier, Vermont, where she
was working in a paralegal program and is how she began her real estate career. Wendy has a love for the Adirondacks and especially in the valley where she would like it to remain pristine with
its forests and river beds. Wendy is eager to use her skills and knowledge of the area to help her clients find just the right property that fits their needs.
Susan Harral, Licensed Salesperson
Susan and her husband, Bill, moved to Keene Valley in July 2010 after visiting the area
many times. Although originally from Roanoke, Virginia, Susan was living in Grantham, PA on the outskirts of Harrisburg, just prior to
their move here. Being the daughter of a home builder, Susan grew up in a family which was very involved with house construction
and renovation. She has a special interest in older homes and is a member of AARCH (Adirondack Architectural Heritage). Susan
has 16 years experience as a real estate para-legal and had thought about a career as a real estate salesperson many times. She obtained her
real estate license and began working at Adirondack Realty in February, 2012 and is very excited about this new opportunity to serve the
community and others. Susan and Bill together have 4 grown children and 6 grandchildren and enjoy visiting whenever possible. They also enjoy the
wonderful outdoor activities that are available here, which is the reason they moved to the Adirondacks. You'll find them out hiking, canoeing, snow shoeing
or skiing when they can and always with their Chocolate Lab, Drew!
Elizabeth Preston, Rental Agent and Licensed Salesperson
Beth came to Adirondack Realty in April of 2005 as our Secretary/Receptionist. In 2008 Beth became
a Licensed Real Estate Agent and in the spring of 2009 became our Rental Agent. Beth enjoys working in the Rental Department. She is a lifelong resident of the Adirondacks and with her knowledge of the community and surrounding areas, is very helpful to people
wanting to vacation here. Beth resides in Jay, New York with her husband, Roger and their two sons, Brandon and
Roger, Jr. When Beth isn't busy at work or with her family, she enjoys reading and volunteering at her children's school.
Kathy Yaniro, Office Coordinator
Kathy, her husband John, and their three children, Michael, Matthew and Katie, moved here in April of 1993 from the suburbs
of Philadelphia. Kathy started at Adirondack Realty in the winter of 1996 as the office coordinator and is responsible for all of the advertising and maintaining our web site. In addition to working, Kathy also
enjoys reading, traveling, spending time with her husband and children and is active in her church.
